In the Automatic Stop Policy:

You can configure the number of days to which the products will be prescribed when the Duration field remains with the automatic value (Auto).

The configuration is defined at the product class level, therefore any product belonging to the configured class will take this configuration.

To configure:

For ECS Staff Only

Just go to the Automatic Stop Policy window and create a new record.

Choose an Organization, Product Classification, the Maximum Automatic Duration, and Save the record.

Note: It is possible that there are default records at the system level, however, you need to create the specific records required for the customer (At the client level).

What you should know?

1. By external rules, no more than 8 doses can be added to the same drug.

2. The product classification is defined in the Drug Classification field in the Product Maintenance window.

3. The number of days in Validity days field cannot be above the Max. Automatic Duration set for this product category.

4.It is not recommended to set more than one week as the validity days for a prescription, since it could sometimes result in an overdose or affect the performance of the medication in patients.

Instead, we suggest to write a prescription for less than the time limit and then renew it by following these methods:

  • Medication Reconciliation

Where past prescriptions are taken and copied to re-prescribe.

To do so, go to Orders screen from Physician Dashboard. Then, in context menu go to Order Sets and choose Medication Reconciliation :

Search for the prescription in Previous Medications section and select it. Keep selected those Active CPOE Orders you wish to keep.

    Click Save.

You will see a confirmation message, select Yes.

  • Renew Prescription

Where a prescription that is about to expire is renewed with the same data. There are two methods for this:

    • Renew from Worklist

In Worklist there is a category for prescriptions about to expire (called About to expire : Medications ) , select it to see the details of these prescriptions.

Then, in Action column select Renew Order. If you wish instead to discontinue this order, click Cancel.

    • Renew from Modify in Medications tab

In the Medications tab of the Orders window (Physician Dashboard) you can see when a prescription is about to expire (highlighted in yellow). Select the Modify option, here the following message will appear:

Select the checkbox to renew it without discontinuing the current prescription and confirm.
