Some medications are usually dispensed in a single dose (single-dose presentations) and others are dispensed in containers intended for multiple doses. For this type of medications, which comes in presentations such as bottles, syrups and ointments, we made an adjustment in the Product Maintenance window (Charge Master II) to allow you to mark and fill a medication as multidose when registering it in our system.
To apply the multidose function for a new product, you must create the new registration in Charge Master II:
You will be directed to Product Maintenance where you must fill in the data for that product. You must fill the General Data tab, please enter all of the the product information such as name. Once you enter the name of the product, a Medication box will be activated (lower part) , this is where you can activate the Multidose box, in the lower left corner:
Save your selection.
Important:
A product may be applied as a multidose only when registering it, otherwise this adjustment cannot be made on existing products.
If the UDM (Unit of Measure) packaging is not correct for a product, then the product cannot be prescribed as a multidose.
Applying multidose medications in Pharmacy Dashboard
For Physicians:
You can go to Physician Dashboard and in Services screen set a medication order with multiple doses, to do so you will only need to set duration, frequency, route and other not mandatory fields for that medication.
The system will now automatically recognise when this medication has been set as multidose and calculate the amount of maximum doses per product that can be set:
Other options like dose/rate, indications and diagnostic are not mandatory but will give more details to other areas of your hospital:
Click Save.
For Pharmacists:
After receiving a medication order, you will be able to see the amount of doses in the following field, if it's only one then you will not need to prepare many doses:
In dose/rate you will be able to verify the amounts, now complete the supply process and click on Save.
For Nurses:
On Nurse Dashboard, choose your patient and go to eMAR to verify the medications you need to apply for this patient. You will see any multidose medication applied according to their schedule:
This process will allow you to dispense medications more easily and without having to repeat this process for multidose medications.
We hope this improves your Cirrus experience. Remember to share this information and ask for help if you need it.
