Medispan alerts are designed to alert clinicians and pharmacists making prescribing and dispensing decisions to information about avoidable medication errors, inappropriate dosing, and adverse events.
However, Cirrus was only displaying these alerts to the physicians and nursing staff when prescribing some certain medications or while doing it under certain scenarios, e.g. before taking weight of height information of the patient.
Now, these alerts will also appear for pharmacists in both Pharmacist Dashboard (for inpatients) and Outpatient Pharmacy Dashboard, this to keep these alerts visible during their drug dispensing processes and helping them to follow Medispan recommendations.
See more details below.
Pharmacist Dashboard
In our example, we created a prescription from Orders screen before entering weight and height for our patient, thus triggering a Major Severity alert from Medispan that communicates physicians about this :
However, this and other alerts will now also appear in Pharmacist Dashboard's patient search screen :
And if you enter the patient order, you will see a warning called Medications Alert, click on it to see more :
Here, you will see the warning but also the details of this alert :
Patient name
Date prescribed
Doctor
Comments made by doctor
This can help pharmacists make decisions before dispensing medications that arrived with alerts.
Now let's see the impact on Outpatient Pharmacy Dashboard.
Outpatient Pharmacy Dashboard
Now, in order to send an order to Outpatient Pharmacy, we created an order in Discharge Medications without having weight and height added for our patient :
And if we go to Outpatient Pharmacy Dashboard, we will now see this alert in the available order that must be dispensed today. Click on this alert icon to expand :
Here you will see the warning message but also the details of this alert :
Patient name
Date prescribed
Doctor
Comments made by doctor
And if you click on the patient order, you will see this icon again, click on it to expand :
This same window will open so users will not miss it:
By this, we are making sure that your processes are driven more safely every day.
We hope this improves your Cirrus experience. Remember to share this information and ask for help if you need it.
