There is another type of patient interactions with drugs called Adverse Drug reaction (ADR), which are unwanted undesirable effects that are possibly related to a drug. Side effects can vary from one patient to another and may occur following a single dose or prolonged administration of drugs.
Now, users can add this information when knowing about any ADR your patient may have with any drugs, this in order to communicate this to another area from your hospital about this and to act in consequence. See here how.
Now, Allergies pop-up window from Allergies screen will have a new checkbox called Adverse Drug reaction and it will be enabled when the Type of Allergy selected is Drug Allergy* :
*This in order to specify the medication name in Allergy field.
If your patient has an Adverse Drug reaction, check this box. You will see how a new field called Status of Adverse Drug Reaction appears, which is mandatory and here you must select any of the following options :
Confirmed as Allergy
Confirmed as Side Effect
Under investigation
Note : Must select Severity before saving.
Once entered that this patient has an Adverse Drug Reaction and its related information, save your changes.
You will see how the following information changes :
Drug Allergy information will now display ADR + Drug
Type column will show if this is either an allergy or an adverse drug reaction.
Status for ADR will show specific types of statuses.
Pharmacists and Clinicians will be allowed to see that this patient has any ADR to the given medication in the alert section of the encounter header of their corresponding dashboards (Physician, Nurse, Pharmacist, Encounter, Outpatient Pharmacy). However, you can also check this allergic information in Allergies section from the Electronic Patient Record :
We hope this improves your Cirrus experience. Remember to share this information and ask for help if you need it.
