In this article we will show you how to reserve, prepare and deliver drugs and then how to manage their return when Nursing personnel return them to the pharmacy warehouse since these drugs were not administered to the patient.
Pharmacist Dashboard - Preparation & Delivery
To deliver medications from Inpatient Pharmacy, you must follow only four simple steps:
In preparation of orders tab, select any pending prescription that must be delivered today.
Reserve from warehouse by clicking context menu and selecting Reserve stock. Here you must assign the quantity to supply from the selected medication. Save to confirm.
Now click context menu and select Preparing meds. This will take you to Prepare Doses screen. Save record and when preparation is ready to be delivered, click on Deliver Meds (last step is mandatory since it will send the order to Nursing Dashboard for their administration).
2. Nurse Dashboard - Mark Unadministered drugs as held
When any delivered dose is not administered for any reason to the patient, it must be marked by Nursing personnel as Held. This will allow them to return those meds to your warehouse and to perform the warehouse movements by tracking them on Cirrus.
Note:
The return of these held medications must be confirmed by pharmacists. Check next step to see how.
3. Movement Confirmation - Confirm inventory return
Now pharmacists must validate that these medications were returned in conditions and that the returned amount is correct. To do so, go to Movement Confirmation window, here you must see a document generated automatically from the held medications.
You can also look for the document by selecting these parameters : Document Number, MRN, Date Range, Receiving Warehouse (will always be your warehouse) and Return Warehouse. If you already have the document number, all of the other parameters will be ignored.
To complete this process, follow these steps:
Select document from the results.
In Details you will see all of the medications that are being returned to your warehouse, click on it. A new pop-up window will open up, here you must confirm the quantity returned. Save.
To complete the return, select context menu and click Confirm. A warning window must appear now, confirm again.
You can now download the report that confirms the inventory movement on Cirrus.
Step 3 process can also be performed in Confirmation of Products (Pharmacist Dashboard) :
